DANCING CLASSES TO BE HELD AT LEGION CLUBROOMS

Dancing classes, given by Mrs. G. M. Graif of Zumbrota, will be held at the Legion clubrooms beginning next week, rather than Hotel Mazeppa. See the advertisement on Page Two for further details.

Obituaries

FRANK H. TUPPER

Frank H. Tupper of South Mazeppa passed away at 4:30 p.m. March 2 at the home of his son, Donald in Rochester. He was 78 years of age and had been ill for several years.

The son of Ezra and Emma Witter Tupper, he was born Sept. 15, 1876 in Pine Island Township. He attended District 54 in Wabasha County, and Mary 28, 1902, was married to Elizabeth M. Hoffman at Mazeppa. He moved to the home farm at the age of two, and followed the occupation of farming all his life. In his later years he resided with his son Kenneth on the home farm.

Surviving, in addition to his wife, are six children; Ezra of Minneapolis, Kenneth and Mrs. John Frank of Mazeppa, and Donald, Gordon and Jerry of Rochester.

This entire area was saddened by the death of Mr. Tupper. For many years he had been one of the most prominent in farming and community affairs in South Mazeppa. He loved people and it always a joy to visit with him. His family is offered the deepest sympathy in its great loss.

LECIL ARNOLD 

Lecil Arnold of Maple Plain, Minn., died unexpectedly February 28 in Arizona, en route home a trip to California.

A son of Charles and Nettie Arnold, he was born at Alexandria, Minn. Aug 18, 1894, and moved to Mazeppa when a boy. He lived here for many years.

Surviving are his wife; one daughter Yvonne of California and two brothers Clarence of California and Lawrence of Rochester.

He was 60 years of age.

Mr. Arnold had many friends in Mazeppa, who were shocked to hear of his sudden death.

In The Service

Fort Hood, Texas---Pfc. George D. Meyer, son of Louis H. Meyer of Mazeppa, recently participated in a special Army test exercise at Fort Hood, Texas. Purpose of the exercise was to test combat command experimental formations organized by the 1st Armored Division to adapt to the latest concepts of atomic-age ground warfare.

Pfc. Meyer, a truck driver with Headquarters and Service Co. of the 1st Tank Battalion, entered the Army in December 1953 and completed basic training at Fort Riley, Kansas.

Linda Maas Picked For Girls’ State

Linda Maas has been chosen as the junior girl to represent Mazeppa at Girls’ State this. It was announced this week by the American Legion auxiliary, the sponsoring organization.

Chester Twp. Collects $354.83 In Polio Drive

The sum of $354.83 was collected in the 1955 “March of Dimes” in Chester Township. Donations were given in the following amounts; one gift of $50, three of $10 each, one of $7 and others ranging from $5 down to 30 cents. Coin boxes brought $5.28.

Solicitors were Alfred Heitmann, Willous Heitmann, Mrs. Leonard Klindworth, Mrs. Earl Ehers, Mrs. Florian Reding, Pete Perotti, Geo. Majerus and John Zorn.

Mazeppa Township Held Election, Tues.

Warren Grossbach was elected supervisor on a 45-24 vote in Mazeppa township, in Tuesday’s election. His opponent was Henry Sommerfield.

Joe Sibley, running for treasurer, was unopposed and was elected on 61 ballots. For assessor, Felix Marx received 18 votes to Winfred Larson’s 9, and Jack Cole was elected constable.

A fairly heavy turnout of votes was realized with 69 ballots cast.

Nice Going

The Dierkhissings don’t know I saw this, but through devious means I secured a copy of The Municipal Liquor Store magazine. Among a page of pictures of those attending the one-day mid-winter meeting Feb. 10 at The Nicollet in Minneapolis was one with the following caption:

“The association’s tallest member (and most handsome according the women) Harold Dierkhissing, Mazeppa with his equally handsome wife agree with Calmer Ekker, Mabel and William Decheint, Minneapolis, this was a most successful affair.”
