The memorial service for Larry Olson was held Tuesday June 7, 2022 at 11:00 AM at United Redeemer Lutheran Church in Zumbrota.  The Rev. Marggi Pleiss Sippola officiated.  Burial followed at the United Lutheran Cemetery in Zumbrota.  Visitation was one hour prior to the service at the church.  Mr. Olson, 74, died Monday May 30, 2022 at Saint Mary’s Hospital in Rochester.

Larry Palmer Olson was born March 9, 1948 in Red Wing, Minnesota, the son of Palmer and Rosella (Mehrkens) Olson.  He was baptized and confirmed at Christ Lutheran Church in Zumbrota, and graduated from Zumbrota High School with the Class of 1966.  After graduation, he served his country in Vietnam as a soldier in the U.S. Army.  On January 10, 1976 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa he married the love of his life Mary Sumption.  He worked briefly as a surveyor for Benson’s Construction, and then was employed many years at Dairy Farmers of America (DFA), from which he retired.  He loved bowling and sports of all kinds.  He never missed a game his grandsons played in.  He enjoyed the outdoors, hunting, camping, and fishing, and treasured time spent with his family.  He was a member of United Redeemer Lutheran Church, and the VFW in Zumbrota.

Larry is survived by his wife Mary Olson of Zumbrota; a daughter Lynn (Charles) Wingfield of Zumbrota; two grandsons Sean and Christopher Wingfield; four sisters Carolyn Morken, Dianne Henry, both of Zumbrota, Barbara Underdahl of Nerstrand, and Nancy Ellanson of Le Sueur; and two brothers Dale (Diane) Olson of Zumbrota, and David (Deb Kirtz) Olson of Mazeppa.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son Scott Michael O’Reilly; a brother Scott Olson; four brothers-in-law, two nieces, and a great-nephew.
