Mazeppa Lions, 50 years and counting!

Posted

The Mazeppa Lions were chartered in March 1973 and the 50th anniversary was recently celebrated on March 30th, 2023. For 50 years the Mazeppa mens chapter has been a stong presence in the Mazeppa community as well as supporting local charities and Lions Club International. The main focus of the Mazeppa Lions is helping with local and community projects in various ways. Ranging from volunteering their time, donating money or needed supplies, planning and running events, bascially whatever needs to be done.

Some projects the Mazeppa chapter have been involved in are:

Mazeppa Daze, National Night Out, adopt a highway, supporting various activities at the schools, weekly Bingo during the winter, Santa and candy bags for the kids at Christmas, participating with the Mazeppa Market,

membership outings, just to name a few.

Lions club International was started in 1917 in Chicago by Melvin Jones to gather people to help improve their communities. Now over 100 years later there are chapters all over the world.

Local resident John Gruhlke is a charter member and continues to be an active member 50 years later. He reflects on all the wonderful people and great friends he has made along with serving the local community.

Not many people can say they have served their local community for 50 years, John leads by example.

The Mazepppa Lions meet the first and third Thursday. Meetings are held at the Lions building in the Mazeppa park starting at 7pm. You can find them on Facebook under Mazeppa Lion's Club.

Hats off to the Mazeppa Lions and heres to the next 50 years!
