Organizing the office!

Posted

My office at MotoProz is a small space. In 2007, when we bought MotoProz, I opted to have Mike paint the office a bright green color. A few years later, when we replaced our old desktop computer at home with a laptop; we no longer needed the desk at home. The desk fit and works perfect in my office, but getting the old desk out was pretty tricky. It must have been put together in the office, so Mike had to cut it up with a chainsaw to get it out! We put up a 4-hook coat rack and a bench. I have a nice office chair with rollers. That chair is where I type these articles!

I have a pretty good filing and organization system going on in the office. Years ago, the first time I worked with a professional organizer, she had me take everything out of the office. It was a lot of work, but the systems we put in place remain today. There is a spot for incoming mail and outgoing mail. The biggest help has been my slot for papers to file later. I can get my work done, and someone else can do the filing later. I have a wall calendar to write reminders on, and I use a smaller desk calendar by the week. We also keep a wall calendar for employee time off. When we bought the store, there was a huge wall organizer with 24 slots, which I still use today along with the file cabinets left behind. They all work just fine.

I know where everything is at, but after 10 years, I felt like the office was looking messy again. I had to start somewhere, so I hired a helper. She wiped off and straightened the desk and shelves, and it looked so much better. I tossed some old papers, and things I just don’t or won’t use. My office is definitely the catch-all, and Mike had some big piles of papers stacking up. After the office was cleaned, he went ahead and started tossing papers from his stack. There will always be more to do. It will never be perfect, but I’ll save something to do for another day.

One thing we have kept in the office all these years, is an old WD’s Bar & Grill Menu and the Leo’s Phone number written on the office wall right above the door!

Stay tuned for next month’s topic: Spring is near; time to compile a procrastination list!

There’s so much to do, so little time. Bye for now!
