Speed cleaning - habits/chores/routines

Posted

If I set aside 20 to 30 minutes to clean, my least favorite task is dusting, so that would be the first job I would skip in my speed clean session!

An unwritten rule at my house (and at the cabin), we make our bed first thing in the morning. Whoever gets up last, has to make the bed. When I say we, that means Mike and I and whoever sleeps on the living room hide-a-bed couch or else you wouldn’t be able to walk through the cabin, it’s so small.

At home, I would start by making sure the dishwasher is loaded, dishes are done and counter and table is wiped off, wipe out the microwave and the top of the stove. No dishwasher at the cabin, so we sometimes use paper plates and cups to keep the dishes to a minimum. I would pickup the living room, which usually consists of folding clean laundry that was left there. I would set the baskets of folded laundry in our closets to put away later.

Both at home and the cabin, I have a stick vacuum to spot vacuum the rooms (rather than sweeping) which goes long enough to do the entire main floor. We don’t use the basement often, so no worries about cleaning up the basement. The cabin doesn’t have a basement.

Last, clean the bathroom (including the mirror) and make sure the trashes are emptied. Ta da, ta done!

Stay tuned for next month’s topic: A place for everything and everything in its place.

There’s so much to do, so little time. Bye for now!
