IRWIN-MUSTY
Feathered carnations, stock and ferns at the altar formed the background for the nuptial high mass uniting Lenora Mary Ann Musty and Pvt. Frank A. Irwin in marriage in a double ring ceremony at SS. Peter and Paul Catholic church at 10 a.m. Tuesday, February 1, Rev. F.J. Felten officiated and mass servers were Bill Smith and Joe Hoffman.
A wedding dance was held at the Trianon that evening.
The bride is a graduate of Mazeppa high school and the bridegroom of Lake City high school. Pvt. Irwin will report to Camp Chaffee, Ark., February 4, where Mrs. Irwin plans to join him later.
SEVENTEEN ENROLLED IN NIGHT TYPING CLASS
The Wednesday night typing class for adults has 17 enrollees. They are Mmes, E.A. Kuehn, Donald Webster, S.H. Prigge, Arthur Reiland, J.B. Gregoire, G.A. Gahler, Howard Budensiek, Gordon Bright, Ore Oelkers, Clayton Pfeiffer, E.R. Hoefs, Bert Arendt, Max Maas and John Stull, Misses Laura and Ruth Reeve and Eldred Kuehn.

Just a word to mention how very much our family enjoyed the final home basketball game, Tuesday evening.
It brought to mind with great clarity how very much the school means to our community---how much more often we should attend school activities.
Tuesday night saw a scrapping game with Goodhue, rough only because the boys were trying so hard. It saw a band which has improved unbelievably since I heard it last----even “The Star-Spangled Banner,” a toughie, sounded professional. Little Judy Ehlers gave a charming baton whirling exhibition---and the enthusiasm of the crowd was contagious.
Congratulations to Supt. Eimermann, Coaches Walt Ayotte and Tom Klein, and Harry Prouty for a most vivid example of what the school means to us.
15 Acts Scheduled for Polio Benefit
There is a grand total of 15 acts now scheduled to appear at the BIG March of Dimes variety show at the high school auditorium Friday evening, February 4. The curtains will go up at 8:30.
Latest gal to enter the show is Miss Arlene Rogers of Minneapolis, who will sing popular songs. She is reported en route to New York, but will do this show first.
Also not mentioned last week were three Zumbrota girls, Aurilla Klug, Joanne Hoven and Ann Yunggen, who will do a tap routine, and a family skit with local talent.
The local cast is rehearsing like mad and rounding up costumes. All expectations are for a large crowd for the widely-publicized affair.

Obituaries
MISS WINNIE JOHNSON
Miss Winnie Johnson, lifelong resident of Mazeppa township, died in Zumbrota Community hospital Saturday after a short illness. She was 74 years of age.
She was born in the township January 19, 1881. A brother, Roy, died about four years ago.
Funeral services were held at 2 p.m. Tuesday in Woodville chapel with burial in Mazeppa cemetery. Pallbearers were Clayton Pfeiffer, Ed Halling, Denny Bowers, Ed Youngs, Claude Mulholland, and Art Griebel. Robinson’s Funeral Parlor was in charge of arrangements.
ERNEST HOEFS APPOINTED TO HEAD “FREEDOM” DRIVE
Appointment of Mayor Ernest Hoefs to act as chairman of the Crusade for Freedom drive in Mazeppa was announced in Minneapolis by state co-chairmen Ed Haislet and Benjamin Berger.
The Crusade for Freedom is organized for the purpose of maintaining Radio Free Europe, which broadcasts more than 3,000 hours each week over 29 medium and shortwave transmitters, to countries behind the Iron Curtain, and also finances the sending of pamphlet laden balloons across the Iron Curtain.
Local News: Mr. and Mrs. Richard Weber moved from the Mrs. Jane Almeter house to the Gruhlke apartment last Sunday.
