Missy’s Managing the Manor

Just 15 minutes or a 3 minute reset!

Posted

Many years ago, I gave myself three tasks to do to keep our house in order on my to do list: Cleanup, dishes, and laundry. Does that mean I do each task every day? Heck no.

I hate doing dishes. At the cabin, we have no dishwasher, but I really don’t mind doing dishes at the cabin. At home, I keep pretty good track of filling and emptying the dishwasher, when I can. My hubby and I share this job, but I admit he gets stuck emptying the dishwasher a lot in the mornings, because he is the one who makes breakfast, while I am exercising and getting ready.

I toss a load of clothes in the washer before I exercise, so I can put them in the dryer when I am done exercising, and Mike typically folds most of the laundry.

Sometimes it seems like just 15 minutes is too long to clean up, and I have found that doing a quick pickup before I leave a room has made the most impact. The last person to wake up, makes the bed. When I leave the living room, I put the remotes back and fold blankets. I have a basket on the counter in the bathroom and put stuff away as soon as I am finished using it. I would never leave trash, plates, or glasses sitting out. I take them to the kitchen right away.

If there is a task I am putting off, I try to dedicate 15 minutes to get a good start on it and break it down into a smaller tasks, so I can at least get a good start on it. It doesn’t have to be perfect, I tell myself to just get to work and make some progress.

There’s so much to do, so little time. Bye for now!
