Rev. W. J. Ryan To Leave July 1
Announcement was made last week of the appointment of Rev. W.J. Ryan of Mazeppa as pastor of the new Catholic parish in Rochester by Most Rev. Edward A. Fitzgerald, bishop of the Winona diocese.
Mass will be offered temporarily in the former location of the Haines Gift shop at Miracle Mile. Plans are being prepared, however, for a church school, rectory and convent to be built, on property purchased in 1953.
An extensive improvement program on the church and parsonage were carried out under Father Ryan’s direction during his pastorate here. He also was chairman of the Boy Scout council, which supervises all scout activities.
Hail and Farewell
I fear neither of the subjects of this paragraph will care about this, but The Journal wanted to take this opportunity to say farewell to Rev. W.J. Ryan and his sister, Miss Ruth Ryan.
It is seldom two people come into a community and leave such a deep impression upon it. His parish members, of course, are the ones who know how much he has done for the church during his brief stay here. He also has devoted a great deal of time to the boy Scouts and greatly activated that program during the past two years, as well as acting as chaplain at many American Legion programs.
His sister, Ruth, of course was a gift from heaven for the Tommeraas family, as her skilled fingers brought life back to Randi’s wasted muscles. Her nursing skill was always available to anyone who needed it, and she devoted hours each day to treating those that needed her. This was especially important to the community with no doctor in town.
M. Goransons Honored on Golden Wedding-(picture)
Mr. and Mrs. Goranson were married at Fort Dodge, Iowa, June 22, 1904. They are the parents of nine children: Ernest of Madison, Wis., Mrs. Roland Hoffman of Shakopee, Emmett of Janesville, Oscar of Frontenac, and Burton of Mazeppa. Four daughters passed away, Verna at 16 years of age, Zola at seven years, Zelda at 14 months and Joy Irma at one month. They have 24 grandchildren and two great- grandchildren.

St. John’s Evangelical Lutheran church of Mazeppa was the setting for the wedding Wednesday afternoon, June 16 o Bonnie Banick, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Fred Banick and Lester Schriever, son of Mr. and Mrs. Henry Schriever of Oronoco.
TRI-ROMNESS
Nuptial vows wee exchange by Barbara Romness of Wanamingo and Marvin Tri of Mazeppa at 8 p.m. Wednesday, June 16 at Trinity Lutheran parsonage at Wanamingo.
The bride is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Helmer Romness of Wanamingo and the bridegroom is the son of Mr. and Mrs. Joe Tri of Mazeppa. Following a short wedding trip to northern Minnesota, Mr. and Mrs. Tri will be at home on his farm north of Mazeppa.

Jim Smith Represents Mazeppa at Boy’s State
Jim Smith, son of Mr. and Mrs. Nick Smith, returned Saturday form Boys State which was held at the St. Paul campus of the University of Minnesota last week.
FOURTEEN CHILDREN MAKE FIRST HOLY COMMUNION
Fourteen children made their First Holy Communion Sunday in SS Peter and Paul church. They were: David Eimerman, Adrian Freheit, Patrick Leuth, Thomsas Sand, James Siems, Betty LaVan, Nancy Oelkers, Barbara Reiland, Janet Schafer, Patricia Reuter, Darlene Schmitt, Joan Tlougan, Roxanne Warren and Janet Webster.
