A New Year is Here!

Here we are again! The beginning of a new year. February 3, 2021 was my last day of work at Mayo Clinic. I HAD some great habits set in STONE for myself throughout the years I worked at Mayo Clinic. I was up at 4:45 AM, was at the gym to work out at 5:30AM, shower and breakfast before beginning work at 7:30 and on my days off I walked 3 miles outside. I had no problem getting in 10,000 steps a day.

I am struggling to get up at 6AM some days now. I have my walking partner Jenny, when weather cooperates and my treadmill. I also have my alternative walking partner, Monty’s dog Maisy. She loves going for walks. I started trying some online exercise classes that start at 6AM. Consistency is the key, and not trying to change too many things at once. I try to make a plan for the day, and if I don’t get my exercise in the morning, I try to fit in a little at night after work, even if it is just an extra 10 minutes on the treadmill. I also try to drink 8 glasses of water a day.

Over time, I’ve found it is too easy for me to slip out of routines and form new bad habits. So how to I transform into instilling some new habits for myself? Just keep at it, sneaking in more steps each day, each week. Tuesdays, I’ve been participating in an online Zumba class and I walk to the post office each day. Keep moving forward and trying new things.
