Zumbro Falls City Council Minutes - October 11, 2023

The Zumbro Falls Council met at City Hall on Wednesday at 6PM. The meeting was called to order by the Mayor. All council members were present, excluding the Treasurer.

The clerk’s minutes were read to council from the September meeting and were accepted as read with a motion from Anderson, seconded Bankers, all in favor, carried.

Treasurer’s report followed with a motion to accept by Benson, seconded Anderson, all in favor, carried.

A small group of concerned citizens attending the meeting came to voice their opinions on changing mail voting to in house voting. Cost factors were presented to the group and the reasons for the change made. Zumbro Falls has a better turn out with mail voting and saved tax payer dollars because new voting equipment had to be purchases at that time. The budget for 2024 does not have funds to cover the cost of this change so mail voting will stay in place for the 2024 election. Planning and financial resources need to be studied for a future election if change is to be made.

A motion to accept the written resignation as of September 30th from Phil Dennison, concerning the Treasurer’s position, was accepted by a motion from Benson, seconded Anderson, all in favor, carried. The Clerk will carry out his duties until the end of the year.

Conversation on the Community Garden followed and possible changes to be made next growing Season.

Bruce informed council that Matt Kehren will plow and remove snow for the 2023-2024 winter season with no cost increase from the previous season.

A motion was made by Bankers, seconded Benson, all in favor, carried to accept the bid from Sawdust Salvage Arbor Co. in the amount of $3,400.00 to remove dead trees in the City.

Motion for the meeting to adjourn and the Clerk to pay all bills presented was made by Benson, seconded Anderson, all in favor, carried.
